ART THIRST 2011: Contemporary Art Preview & Wine Tasting at Phillips Downtown

Why spend Cinco de Mayo wearing that same sombrero?

Think private auction house downtown, swish contemporary art and a special wine-tasting featuring Gourmet magazine’s own guru organized exclusively for you and your new non-sombrero-wearing friends. Be a young collector for an evening, and learn to swill and expectorate fermented grapes better than Robert Parker.

Looking for a fun evening with art-minded friends from Brown, Harvard, Princeton, RISDWellesley and Yale? Join us for a private evening at Phillips de Pury & Company, one of the leading purveyors of contemporary art for a special preview of their spring contemporary art auction, just days before works are to be sold!

Wondering if Damien Hirst or Yinka Shinobare prefers Pinot Noir from Oregon’s Williamete Valley or more Burgundian terroir? Come for the wine-tasting and learn more about your own palette. Look no further than at Michael Green, the wine & spirits guru for the late-and-great Gourmet magazine, for his expert guidance during a fun-filled evening!

  • Learn about who’s collecting contemporary, what’s selling and which artists are being featured this season in the all-important secondary market.

  • Join us for an exclusive evening with private collectors for a preview of Phillips’ May Contemporary Art (Part II) Sale.

  • The evening will feature private tours led in small groups by Phillips’ own curators and specialists. Small group tours will begin at 7PM.

  • Music selections curated by Phillips’ own music collection, with mouth-watering chocolates --- since no evening is complete without that ancient Aztec-Swiss delight.

  • Enjoy unlimited glasses of vino, while being expertly lead by our partner Michael Green who will provide us on a journey of taste and a sublime tour of international wines.

All this and more for $25. Bring your friends, bring a date, or bring yourself and a thirst for learning about two pinnacles of modern 21st century achievement: fine wine & contemporary art. We encourage you to drink responsibly, and to think often of your mother. We have been informed that sombreros, talking about butterflies, and toasts to Mexican independence are strictly optional.
