Charity Rooftop Wine Tasting Reception to Benefit OPENING ACT
The Sierra
Thursday August 21, 2008
7pm to 10pm
130 W. 15th Street (b/w 6th and 7th Aves.)
Wine-tasting, private rooftop, live music, free-flowing wine and fun for a perfect summer evening to benefit nyc public high schools!
Share a sunset toast with us! Learn a bit about viticulture and help out a local charity!
We will be hosting a wine-tasting featuring Wine & Spirits Education Trust-certified educator/oenophile, Jeanye Kwack, from our sponsor BOTTLE ROCKET, one of New York's most innovative and fun wine shops, to benefit OPENING ACT (www.openingactnewyork), a New York charity that runs after-school theater programs for NYC public high schools that don't have drama classes or clubs.
FIVE REASONS TO ATTEND:
(1) Three hours of free-flowing wine (until we run out!) from BOTTLE ROCKET and a wine-tasting of Summer Secrets, delightful, summery wines you've never heard of.
(2) Mingle with Brown alums and friends of Opening Act at an exclusive private leafy skyline retreat in one of New York's most luxurious private aeries, the sundeck at The Sierra, a perfect place to spend a summer evening with a glass of vino.
(3) Live music. THE TEARES OF THE MUSES, a rip-roaring baroque chamber group (endorsed by Edmund Spenser, 1591, no less), straight from the fabled NYU Collegium Viol Consort, will be hand to add a bacchanalia-frenzy /harmonious snarl to a sweet summer evening.
(4) 50% of the net proceeds will be donated to Opening Act, a great nonprofit!
(5) Did we mention the wine? (IN VINO SPERAMUS)
We will be holding a raffle, offered chilled wines, and starting our wine-tasting at 8pm. We look forward to seeing you for a fun and perfect summer evening!
For those of you interested in learning more about Opening Act (or starting your own nonprofit!), board members of the nonprofit, including OA's founder, Julia Kamin, will be on hand to enjoy the tasting and discuss your mutual interests.
Special discounted early registration tickets of only $23 if you register prior to Thursday 8/14 (midnight)!
(Late Registration: $30, subject to ticket availability)

On the Inside Track: Navigating the Ever-Changing Landscape of College Admissions
Helen Mills Theatre
Saturday September 20, 2008
11AM - 1PM
135 West 26th St. (Btw 6th and 7th Avenues)
As the number of applications to selective colleges continues to reach new heights, so does the level of panic and frenzy surrounding the college admissions process. The Brown Club in New York is proud to host an illuminating seminar with Dean James Miller, Director of Admissions at Brown.
Please note that this is not a college information session but rather an interactive seminar designed specifically to address many of the recent changes in the college admissions process.
During the seminar, Dean Miller will address gender balance, recent shifts in geographic representation, the elimination of early admissions at select institutions, the role of alumni volunteers, radical changes in the financial aid policy (affecting both recipients and non-recipients) and a range of other topics.
Keep in mind that Dean Miller brings with him more than 20 years of experience in the areas of colleges admissions and financial aid at distinguished academic institutions such as Bowdoin and Harvard. This a unique opportunity to get real answers to your questions from someone on the inside track of college admissions.
This event is open to alumni, family, and friends. Parents are encouraged to bring their children and attend as a family.
Cost: $60 per family.
Space limited!!!
