Join the Brown Club in New York and Brown University Entertainment Group New York for a special evening celebrating the work of one of the most prolific filmmakers in the industry, Linda Goldstein Knowlton. Early on, Linda Goldstein Knowlton built a successful career making feature films like Mumford, Crazy in Alabama, Whale Rider, and The Shipping News featuring a talented cast including Kevin Spacey, Julianne Moore, Cate Blanchett, and Judi Densch. She then made the remarkable transition from the glitz and glamour of feature films to the stark, often brutal reality of documentary filmmaking. Her documentary work includes the critically acclaimed World According to Sesame Street and the soon to be released Code Black.
On this evening, we will have the opportunity to screen a film of extremely personal significance SOMEWHERE BETWEEN, which chronicles the coming-of-age stories of four teenaged girls in the US, all of who were adopted from China as babies. The director has created a moving documentary while illustrating that even the most specific of experiences can be universally relatable. The film also features music composed and performed by rock violinist Lili Haydn ’92.

This evening also marks the launch of the Brown University Entertainment Group New York (BUEGNY). Like its West Coast counterpart, BUEGNY is dedicated to supporting and promoting the network of Brown alumni working in the New York entertainment and media industries. BUEGNY will be a forum for meeting, connecting and promoting Brown alums and their work, by sponsoring a wide array of events - including networking meet ups, industry panels, screenings and more.

As the epicenter of the arts, Lincoln Center is the perfect location to showcase the work of the immensely talented filmmaker Linda Goldstein Knowlton. Coincidentally, the architecture firm of Diller Scofidio + Renfro which recently undertook the task of modernizing and expanding Lincoln Center also created The Granoff Center for the Performing Arts at Brown University.
