Schapiro 17 is a progressive big band assembled in 2012 by Jon Schapiro '90.  Featuring some of New York's top performers and jazz soloists, they play a mix of originals and arrangements of standards.  Influences include Mingus, Ellington and Strayhorn, Gil Evans, Bartók, Ornette Coleman, and Wayne Shorter, to name only a few.  Their next performance will be at Somethin' Jazz, 212 East 52nd St, Monday, March 2, starting at 11pm.  Appearing will be Bryan Davis, Andy Gravish, Tom Goehring, Noyes Bartholomew (trumpet); Deborah Weisz, Darius C. Jones, Nick Grinder, Walter Harris (trombone); Rob Wilkerson, Candace DeBartolo, Dan Pratt, Rob Middleton, Tim Stocker (reeds); Roberta Piket (piano); David Ambrosio (bass); Sebastian Noelle (guitar); and Chris Benham (drums).
